Steve Metzger's, Views from the Road, Exhibition Featured at [seven-degrees] in Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach, CA …September 2002…A solo exhibition of oil on canvas paintings by artist Steve Metzger will be displayed at [seven-degrees] September 5th through September 30th, 2002. The artist reception on September 5th, 2002 is open to the public from 6pm-9pm cocktails and hors d' oeuvres will be served. Metzger will be performing live music that coincides with his exhibition in the Media Lounge at [seven-degrees].

Metzger describes his work as, "a type of Neo- Regionalism that examines recent changes in our culture by depicting the ruins and relics that still exist along America's old roads and highways. I (he) think (s) of them as portraits of places, connected to the hopes and dreams of the past, independent of nostalgia, or longing to return to another time." Metzger born in Minnesota has been a Southern California resident since the age of 13. Metzger states, "The subjects I paint 'are'. The light and atmosphere that interact with them happens when I photograph them and changes through the interpretive process of painting." Metzger having taught art history and color theory ( and other art-related subjects), for the past 15 years at the OC FIDM campus, Metzger, has a keen sense for the use of light and color in his pieces.

Metzger's exhibit has a consistent feeling that is conveyed through his music that coincides directly with his work. Metzger, also a musician / songwriter, sings and plays songs that relate to the paintings, on the piano. exhibiting and eclectic tune that moves through his pieces. Metzger will be performing live at his opening and his CD will be played over the [seven-degrees] sound system, periodically, during gallery hours for the duration of his exhibit. His exhibit will be on display at [seven-degrees] through September 30.
[seven-degrees] located in Laguna Beach is a multi-media art and event venue that defines experience. The 25,000 square-foot facility is located in the heart of the Laguna Beach Civic Art District on Laguna Canyon Road and is comprised of an exhibition gallery, four visiting artist work/live studios, a technologically-equipped media lounge and an outdoor terrace reception area. [seven-degrees] gallery hours are Monday through Friday 11a.m. to 6p.m., on Saturday from 11a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday by appointment.
