The exhibition gathers a series of work in which Magne explores "the alchemy of the flesh", relating to the ephemeral and fragile nature of the human body. The figures undergo several metamorphoses before appearing as large format cibachrome prints. Magnešs work escapes classification, although photographic, the original photos have been scratched, burnt, painted and layered. Depicted as powerful and surreal images, they linger in our consciousness and trigger "sensual memories". Magne's "deconstruction/reconstruction" of the original figures expose the "organic substance that the original photo denies". The final outcome of this process is a new interpretation of the original photograph.

The second portion of the exhibition presents the latest experiments of Magne's dissolution of the human form. The final images still originate from ordinary "portrait" snapshots, but in these pieces the artist tests the boundaries of her mixed media to the point where only matter remains. Odd intertwined shapes, reminiscent of animal/vegetal organisms, cosmic lights and entities yet to be named, strange species and haunting phenomena, inhabit Marianne Magne's unsettling universe.

[seven-degrees] which opened in March of this year is a multi-media art and event venue that defines experience. It was founded for the promotion of artistic endeavor, invention and exhibition of original artwork and functions as an innovative event venue. Marianne Magnešs exhibition will be featured in the Media Lounge and Front Gallery at [seven-degrees] in Laguna Beach and is open to the public Monday through Friday from 11a.m. to 6 p.m., on Saturday from 11a.m. to 3 p.m.
