SPIRIT FINDER suggests the possibility of reincarnation. A live microphone is suspended from a pendulum and swings in a 20' arc, commutating time and the repetitive movement of a seemingly circular dance. The microphone makes an electronic wailing sound as it passes over a pile of bones. The original inspiration for the work was the death of a loved one, and in accordance to their wishes, Stone took the cremated ashes to a canyon for dispersal. While setting up a camera to photograph the event, a small fox appeared. The fox began to play by running in circles around Stone as he scattered the human ashes. When the pictures were developed they appeared to be strangely altered, as if the camera had been vibrating. SPIRIT FINDER is about the hope that the spirit will find a place to rest.
