[seven-degrees]
has joined forces with neighboring University of California Irvine,
Claire Trevor School of the Arts, in producing a forum where art
students gain essential professional work experience. [seven-degrees]
and UC Irvine's studio art Professor Ulysses Jenkins have facilitated
an artist in residence program that renders actual university credits
for a student multimedia art group of five gentlemen, Andrew Johnson,
Eric Tsai, H Shahani, Jonathon Howell, and Long Duong, who call
themselves, The 3rd Space. This project is built upon a fervent
foundation of knowledge, acquired through university experiences
and will bridge the gap between student and professional life. The
program demonstrates how skills learned from student leadership
positions; organizing, managing, and coalition building, can be
translated into implementing conceptual art ideas. The students
of, The 3rd Space, are currently living and working out of two of
the four artist work/live studios provided by [seven-degrees].
The project,
Legacy, is an installation that will integrate current technologies
(sculpture, interactive video projections, and non-interactive video)
in such a way that mirrors the factory model for production. The
concepts brought about by "Legacy" complement the contemporary uses
of existing technologies. The group was required to submit a proposal
for this installation and take part in a number of interviews that
incorporated an art curator from the Laguna Beach Art Museum. The
intent was to give these students an idea of what to expect upon
entering into the professional art world. The design of "Legacy"
takes full advantage of the digital facilities provided by [seven-degrees]
and will be installed in the main event space opening October 20th,
2001 and remaining through October 28th, 2001. "Legacy" will also
be exhibited at the UC Irvine campus in June 2001.
[seven-degrees]
is proud to be facilitating the specialized art/work experience
that will be gained by these five university students. Growing,
creating, and expanding artistic minds; this is the essence of the
[seven-degrees] vision.
